Beginners Workshop
Did you ever want to learn how to milk a goat or cow and then make cheese with that milk that you just worked so hard to get. Well here is your chance to do just that. The farm will host a few hands on milking and cheesemaking workshops. Please call for dates available. Although we hope to have a fun day the sole purpose is to share our knowledge in the working and running of a raw milk dairy on a daily basis. Therefore we ask that any minors attending the workshop be focused on the day’s activities so as not to distract from the experience for other persons attending the workshop. Please come in comfortable clothes and shoes that you won’t mind getting dirty. There will be a limited number of openings for each workshop so if interested in attending please contact me as soon as possible. Start time will be 7:00 a.m. and will end around 12:00. A light breakfast will be served along with fresh hot coffee juice and of course fresh cows, and goats milk. If you are on a gluten free or special diet you may want to eat breakfast before you come to the workshop. We will first milk the cows and then the goats. Each person attending will have the opportunity to learn how to milk the cows and goats. After all milking is complete and cleanup is finished we will continue on to making cheese. From the fresh milk a very simple cheese called Cuajada will be made. This is a Spanish cheese. This cheese is ready to eat in 1 hour. After that the making of Mozzarella from goat milk will be demonstrated. Then Gouda an aged cheese. These cheeses are all easy to make in your own home. There will be samples of cheeses and desserts all during the cheesemaking portion of the workshop. You will be able to taste from the soft goat cheese garlic and chives, Tuscan herb blend, French onion, and Jalapeno and green chili. In the aged cows milk cheese there will be cheddar, gouda, and Manchego. Desserts will be ginger mascarpone ice box cake, lemon ice cream with blueberry sauce and vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce all made from goat milk.
